Our team at Gordonvale Family Medical Centre is committed to providing a traditional family medical service that is focused on long-term doctor-patient relationships and whole person care. We offer vital immediate care as well as advice and preventative health care that you and your family need to actively and healthily progress through every life phase.

Family health care is centred on building lifetime relationships between doctors and patients, with many generations often using the services of the one family doctor. By seeing one doctor over the long term, you are able to make personal connections and be comfortable in sharing the most personal details of your health concerns, whether that be physical, emotional or mental.  The result is far more effective responsive and preventative health care.

A great benefit of coming to Gordonvale Family Medical Centre, is that if your usual doctor is not available, the other doctors are able to access your detailed health records and provide the same level of care that you would receive from your regular GP.  Over the years, patients are able to form trusting relationships with several of our dedicated family doctors ensuring consistent access to traditional, whole person care.

Billing

Our tiered fees are designed to keep quality health care affordable and accessible.

All children under 16, Aged Pensioners, Gold Vets and patients over 75 are bulk-billed except for after-hours visits.

Other pensioners and Health Care Card holders are offered a substantial discount.

Other patients pay a gap over the Medicare rebate with a discounted fee for follow-up visits.

All diagnostic and treatment procedures are bulk-billed.

Full payment of your account at time of consultation is required and appreciated by cash, cheque or EFTPOS.  We can lodge your Medicare claim electronically and your rebate is paid into your bank account within three days.

Seeing Your Doctor

Appointments

Consultations are by appointment, however, urgent medical problems can be seen quickly with the next available doctor.  To help us keep to our schedule:

After Hours

The Practice is open until 6:00pm or 7:00pm during the week and on Saturday mornings until 12:00 noon.  After these times, one of the doctors is on-call to existing patients for urgent consultations and advice.  Please phone 07 4056 3600 for the on-call contact number.  For all medical emergencies, don’t wait,  phone 000 immediately.

Home Visits

Home visits are available to regular patients for substantial medical reasons but most problems are best dealt with at the surgery.  Please phone and we will accommodate your needs to fit in with the day’s schedule.

Other Locations

Our doctors visit Pyramid Retirement Centre and St John’s Young Lifestyle Care.  Visits can be arranged by phoning the Practice directly or through the care centre’s staff.  These visits are bulk billed.

Emergency or Impaired Mobility Access

No-step and private access is provided through the entry at the side of the building along the driveway.  Please use this entrance and waiting room if you are accompanied by an assistance dog.

Parking

Off-street parking is available at the rear of the building via the side driveway.

Privacy

Your personal information is handled in accordance with our privacy policy that is consistent with privacy legislation. You are entitled to know what information is held, who has access, to whom it may be disclosed, when your consent is needed and how it is stored. Details of our privacy policy and general privacy information is available at Reception.

Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions beyond those already given are not normally repeated without a consultation, for good medical reasons.

Diagnostic Test Results

Test results may be provided by telephone only to the patient or guardian, and if your doctor has reviewed and commented on the result. Your doctor will advise if you need follow-up care but you are encouraged to contact the Practice if you have any concerns.

If you have a problem we would like to hear about it. Please talk to your Doctor or our staff, or write to us. We take your concerns, suggestions and complaints seriously. However, if you wish to take the matter further, contact the Office of the Health Ombudsman for Queensland by phone 133 646 or at www.oho.qld.gov.au.
